Location and Directions

Directions to Lakota Lake Encampment via I-90, Exit 57 Updated 5/14/18

• Take exit #57, which will head you south towards downtown Rapid City.
• You will see signs to “West 16/East 44/Mt.Rushmore” and should be ready to shift over to the left lane.
• At the first light, there are 2 left turn lanes. Get in the right-most left turn lane, following the signs to “West 16/ Mt. Rushmore”
• At the first light, take a right. You are now on Mt. Rushmore Road/West 16.
• Follow Mt. Rushmore Road/West 16 for approximately 18 miles, where you will see a left exit to Keystone on Hwy 16A.
• Take the left exit to Keystone/Hwy 16 A and go down a long hill into Keystone. At the first light, turn left on to East 40.
• Follow East 40 for approximately 2 ½ miles until your next turn. (As you go through old Keystone, keep to the speed limit!) You are looking for Playhouse Road on the right.
• Turn right on Playhouse Road. Follow this for a little over 4 miles.
• When Playhouse Road ends, you will be at Iron Mountain Rd/16A. Turn right here.  See map below.  
• You will go approximately 2.2 miles to the entrance to Lakota Lake Encampment. On the way, you will pass the entrance to Lakota Lake. Continue up the hill to the first road on the right, which is Three Meadows Road.
• Turn right on Three Meadows Road and go down the hill.

Directions to Lakota Lakes Encampment via I-90, Exit 61   Updated 5/14/18

• Take exit #61. Up the hill at the end of the ramp is a light; turn slight left there, basically just taking you over the highway. The road you are getting on will have signs for SD-79 and US-16 Truck. (Do not ever get on 79.)
• Follow this road as it heads south, goes through a light or two, then turns west to go over a hill. I think this is labeled US-16 Truck or Bypass. You stay on it about 9 miles or so.
• You come down a hill with a stop light at the end. There is a light at the bottom of this hill. This should be US-16 W or it may be labeled Mt. Rushmore Road. There may be signs that say to turn left to get to Mt. Rushmore. Turn left at this light.
• Follow Mt. Rushmore Road/West 16 for about 12 or 13 miles until you see a left exit to Keystone on Hwy 16A.
• Take the left exit to Keystone/Hwy 16 A and go down a long hill into Keystone. At the first light, turn left on to East 40.
• Follow East 40 for approximately 2 ½ miles until your next turn. (As you go through old Keystone, keep to the speed limit!) You are looking for Playhouse Road on the right.
• Turn right on Playhouse Road. Follow this for a little over 4 miles.
• When Playhouse Road ends, you will be at Iron Mountain Rd/16A. Turn right here.  See map below.  
• You will go approximately 2.2 miles to the entrance to Lakota Lake Encampment. On the way, you will pass the entrance to Lakota Lake. Continue up the hill to the first road on the right, which is Three Meadows Road.
• Turn right on Three Meadows Road and go down the hill.

Directions to Lakota Lake Encampment from the Rapid City airport  Updated 5/14/18 

• Take the exit road out of the airport, following signs “Airport Exit” or “Rapid City”. At the stoplight take a left on Airport Road.
• Turn right at the light at the bottom of the hill. This is 44. You will go west for a few miles.
• Look for signs for West Truck 16/South 79. Take on-ramp to this road. You will be on this road for about 9 miles I think.
• Follow this road as it heads south, then turns west to go up a long hill. DO NOT GET OFF AT 79 or CAMBELL ROAD.
• You will pass a new mall area with a big Walmart on your right.
• After cresting the hill, you come down a hill. There is a light at the bottom of this hill. The crossroad at the light should be US-16 W or it may be labeled Mt. Rushmore Road. There may be signs that say to turn left to get to Mt. Rushmore. Turn left at this light.
• Follow Mt. Rushmore Road/West 16 for about 12 or 13 miles until you see a left exit to Keystone on Hwy 16A.
• Take the left exit to Keystone/Hwy 16 A and go down a long hill into Keystone. At the first light, turn left on to East 40.
• Follow East 40 for approximately 2 ½ miles until your next turn. (As you go through old Keystone, keep to the speed limit!) You are looking for Playhouse Road on the right.
• Turn right on Playhouse Road. Follow this for a little over 4 miles.
• When Playhouse Road ends, you will be at Iron Mountain Rd/16A. Turn right here. See map below.  
• You will go approximately 2.2 miles to the entrance to Lakota Lake Encampmnt. On the way, you will pass the entrance to Lakota Lake. Continue up the hill to the first road on the right, which is Three Meadows Road.
• Turn right on Three Meadows Road and go down the hill.

Directions to Lakota Lake Encampment from Denver (via Custer State Park) Updated 5/14/18

• Get Mapquest directions from your location to Custer, SD.
• You will be coming north in to Custer on 385. You’ll come to a T intersection, and you need to turn right (east) to stay on 16/385.
• You will see an intersection where 16/385 turns north, a left hand turn but DON’T take that turn. You want to continue straight, and the road you’re on becomes 16A or Alternate 16.
• Follow 16A towards Custer State Park. Turn left on 87.
• At some point you will have to pay an entry fee for Custer State Park.
• Go on 87 for a little while, through some twisty downhill turns, then turn right on Playhouse Road.   Once on Playhouse Road, you will pass the Black Hills Playhouse and an entrance to Center Lake.
• Playhouse Road will bring you out to a T where you have to turn. This is 16A/Iron Mountain Road. Turn left.
• You will pass another Playhouse Road on your right. Don’t turn there, stay on 16A/Iron Mtn Road.   The entrance to our development is a little more than 2 miles from here.  See map below.  
• You will pass an entrance to Lakota Lake on your right.
• Continue up the hill and look for the first right after the Lakota Lake Entrance. This road is Three Meadows Road and is the entrance to our development. Turn right here.
